The 1997 post-electoral survey was conducted between the two rounds of the legislative elections which took place on May 25 and June 1, 1997. The objective was to acquire a better understanding of French electoral behaviour in unusual electoral conditions: surprise of the dissolution of the Assembly and short turnaround leading to a relatively short electoral campaign. This survey provides a way to analyse French electoral behaviour through variables on participation in the first round of the elections, and participation and voting intentions for the second round, or else on interest in politics. It also measures the extent to which the French were convinced by the proposals advanced in the electoral campaign to resolve France’s economic and social problems (elimination of the minimum wage, creation of public jobs, reduction in working time…). Other questions focus on societal issues or the European Union. Finally, the 1997 post-electoral survey provides researchers with analytical tools such as confidence indicators, sociopolitical indicators or scales of values.
